Antioxidant - Echinacea
Echinacea angustifolia [Echinacea purpurea, Purple]
is a herb widely used for boosting the immune system.
It also has some antioxidant effect; helping the body
prevent thymus gland involution.
Echinacea has in the past been used to treat common
fevers and minor infections, as well as infectious diseases
such as typhoid, meningitis, malaria and diptheria.
How Echinacea Works
Echinacea works primarily by acting as a blockade to
one of the major ways in which we can become infected,
making the body resistive to the destructive enzyme
activity, and then facilitates fibrous connective tissue
regeneration, necessary and essential for healing. It
also exhibits antiinflammatory effects, showing cortisone-like
activity.
Echinacea is powerful in:
- destroying the germs of infection directly and
increasing the white blood count, boosting the bodies
natural defences.
- has antiseptic and anesthetic properties.
- helps detoxify and pull waste residues out of the
lymph glands.
- boosts the primary defense systems of the body,
the HA-System forming an effective barrier against
invading disease.
- helps prevent rheumatism and tumor formation and
the beginning of malignancy
Research has shown Echinacea to exhibit interferon-like
activity, increasing T-cell action, stimulating the
Lymph system to carry waste tissue away from areas of
infection, and protect cells against virus related diseases.
