FITNESS TESTS

BALANCE TEST

Balance

Balance is the ability to stay upright or stay in control of body movement. As such, it is also a important component of agility.

Balance is an important component of many sports, although it is seldom tested. In children, balance testing may be used as a measure of development.

Standing Balance Test

  1. Stand on flat non-slip surface.
  2. Raise one leg behind you so that you hold onto foot.
  3. Use your other arm to assist your balance.
  4. Time how long you can remain in this position.
  5. Repeat with other leg.

Variations

To increase the degree of difficulty, the test can be conducted with the person having their arms either:

  • by their sides
  • held out horizontally
  • on their head

You could also conduct the test with their eyes closed for each of these variations too.

Scoring

Scoring is the length of time the person can stay in the balance position.
